ELMA education programming pursues excellence in basic education for poor and disadvantaged children and youth in southern Africa while complementing and enhancing grants to support health. The chief guiding principle is to strengthen each part of the “educational triad” — student, parent, and teacher. Priority areas encompass:
Basic competencies (early childhood, primary and secondary levels)
Community-based schools (with attention to nutrition, health
and safety)
Educational advancement and teacher training
