On April 16th, eight big, bold ideas for global change were unveiled at TED2019.

These projects are receiving support from The Audacious Project, a coalition of leading philanthropists unleashing capital at scale for some of the world’s most pressing issues.

Among these game-changing projects is ELMA grantee The END Fund, who will use a $50 million catalytic commitment from the Audacious community of funders to accelerate progress towards elimination of intestinal worms and schistosomiasis in targeted countries in Africa over six years. In order to unlock this $50million investment and achieve their ambitious elimination goals, The END Fund must match it with another $50 million.

Parasitic worm diseases are preventable and treatable, yet continue to cause impaired growth and development in children. They are a major public health threat, affecting nearly a quarter of the world’s population. Diseases caused by worm infections have stymied human health for centuries, preventing communities from reaching their full potential.

In addition to expanding treatment, The END Fund will develop innovative partnerships to integrate water, sanitation and hygiene strategies, and work with governments and local partners to sustain progress towards elimination.

Other audacious ideas supported by ELMA include UPSTART Project, which will increase access to early education in the United States and Thorn, an organization working to eliminate child sexual abuse from the internet.
